If you know Beth’s music and poetry, you know what a special artist she is. Not long ago we shared a spoken word evening, and it was a joy. This time we'll mix in some songs.

It’s been 5 long years since I’ve shared the stage with Don Henry and Sally Barris. Thank you to Bruce Swan and Louise Baker for the chance to do it again. We’ll each play a short set, then gather around one microphone (bluegrass style) for a Waymores set. I can’t wait!

*Virtual doors for both shows at 7pm CDT
**Admission for both shows is free (or donation, if you like), but registration to join stream is required.

2. Ireland 2021 with yours truly, alas…

Not unexpectedly, my upcoming 2021 Ireland friends-and-family tour for Inishfree Tours tour was canceled due to lingering Covid-related challenges. It was to be hosted with my dear friend Kenneth Robinson, and I pray we can again schedule a co-hosted tour down the line.

In 2022 I’ll be hosting another tour that will run July 23 to August 1, and we’ll be exploring Counties Mayo, Galway and Clare.

3. TK Poem-of-the-Month

The Bird

Late night, walking the dog,
no one about
and we’re breezing along
in the crisp cool
of early spring that lasts
but a few days this far south.

And there it is
the little bird
feet up in the middle of the street
stone dead and cold
as we pass by
then turn around to look.

It is so small and round
a chickadee perhaps
soft brown it appears
in the street light.
And can I pass
and leave it like that?

So we walk back
and I pick it up
by its still soft feet
and lob it gently
into the roadside clover.

Walking away down the block
I tell Dexter
I sure hope someone
will do that for me someday.
Just get me out of the road.

4. Recommended: 3 documentaries & a film

I only recently watched all of these. In case you missed any of them, I can highly recommend.

The documentaries:

a. Raise Hell: The Life and Times of Molly Ivins

b. Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice

c. My Octopus Teacher (2020 Oscar Winner)

The film:

Sound of Metal (winner of two 2020 Oscars)

(As one who is hearing impaired—yes, sadly, I suffer severe loss—this excellent film touched me deeply.)
