–Debbie Patton at Sony Soundtrax gave me and Jeff several opportunities to submit (or write from scratch) songs for films, and we wrote “Fairytale Love” for the ballroom scene in “Maid in Manhattan.”

Debbie had told us the movie would be a modern day Cinderella tale and that they needed a great original song that J Lo and Ralph Fiennes could dance to… because the ballroom scene would be recorded to the actual song.

Jeff and I felt we nailed it with “Fairytale Love,” but alas, others in the chain of command ultimately chose something else.

Lyrics

Tell me whoever you are
Do you believe love can open your heart?
And take what was make believe
And make it real as the air that we breathe?

Cause minute by minute, touch by touch
Sure as we’re breathing I’m falling in love

Are you an angel?
Is this some dream?
A new world in motion?
A new life to lead?
I swear this moment
Feels like enough
To make forever
Of a fairy tale love

So here I am at the start
Holding you close as the sky holds the stars
And no matter where this should lead
Somehow I know you will be here with me

And whisper by whisper, kiss by kiss
Sure as we’re dancing it all comes to this

Are you an angel?
Is this some dream?
A new world in motion?
A new life to lead?
I swear this moment
Feels like enough
To make forever
Of a fairy tale love

And I don’t understand this at all
It’s like looking up after a fall
But it’s almost like we’ve always known
This is how we were meant to come home

Are you an angel?
Is this some dream?
A new world in motion?
A new life to lead?
I swear this moment
Feels like enough
To make forever
Of a fairy tale love
