–I wrote this at the request of my good friend Kristin DeWitt for her first album, and I made this work tape so she could learn it. I began the song trying to find her voice and write from there, but in the slow process I also found my own.

Lyrics

So that was love, here one minute then it’s gone
Feels like it’s right, then you’re alone
I thought you made the world like that
But now that world has come and gone

Thank you for loving me, even for leaving me
Cause you reminded me which road I’m on
Though you never tried to show me the light
Somehow you’re leaving it on, so I know baby
I can still stand on my own

This is my life, now I know what I’m living for
I know every open door
Let’s something out and something in
And even though I asked for more

Thank you for loving me, even for leaving me
Cause you reminded me which road I’m on
Though you never tried to show me the light
Somehow you’re leaving it on, so I know baby
I can still stand on my own

Baby I can still stand on my own
And even if I couldn’t see I was strong
Somehow the way things move on
Made me believe it
Made me believe it

Thank you for loving me, even for leaving me
Cause you reminded me which road I’m on
Though you never tried to show me the light
Somehow you’re leaving it on, so I know baby
I can still stand on my own
How else would I have known?
I can still stand on my own
