Generally speaking I run hot and cold as a writer. When I’m hot I can write several songs in a short period of time, and I wrote this song during one of those streaks. Funny thing is, I wrote this one very quickly, recorded a cassette work tape, stuck it in a drawer and forgot about it.

A couple of years later I was looking for a tape I could record over, and I was amazed to discover the song!

I’ve always liked this one. Maybe when something’s a long time coming it’s better appreciated… and better cared for.

Lyrics

Stop your crying, don’t you think you’ve cried enough
For one night anyway?
Baby I’m not lying, I’d do anything for us
That’s all I’m trying to say

After all, when angry words are spoken
They only fall like so many leaves along this…

Blue Highway
Love has taken us the long way around
Blue Highway
Give me something I can hold now

Maybe I’m trouble, maybe that’s for you to say
I can promise you
When it comes down to it, if you let me I will stay
Don’t you want me to?

Say it’s so, say it’s what you wanted
You’ll never know till we’re moving on this…

Blue Highway
Love has taken us the long way around
Blue Highway
Give me something I can hold now

After all we’ve given up
Are we giving up our reason to doubt?
All the time it’s taken us
It’s a wonder we can turn this around
I’m counting on it

Blue Highway
Love has taken us the long way around
Blue Highway
Give me something I can hold now
Blue Highway
Slowly moving over cold, hard ground
Blue Highway
Running through another ghost town
