Lisa was living in California when we wrote this and was just in town for a short writing trip. We had worked all day on a song that was stubbornly refusing to come together, and we finally decided to call it quits. I drove her back to her hotel, and as we were saying our goodbyes it began the rain. This was in the summertime, and there’s nothing like the smell of rain on hot pavement. Lisa inhaled deeply and said, "Ahhh… Thats what I love about rain."

Lyrics

I love the rain
I love the way it falls on everything
Its way of turning brown to green
And gray to blue
That’s what I love about rain
And that’s what I love about you

I love the sun
I love the way it shines on everyone
The way it makes the morning come
And colors true
That’s what I love about the sun
That’s what I love about you

I don’t know why mountains crumble
Or what could hold the stars apart
And I may never know, but still I wonder
Why you let me in your heart

I love the rain
I love the way it washes something clean
And pushes rivers to the sea
To fall anew
That’s what I love about rain

I don’t know why mountains crumble
Or what could hold the stars apart
And I may never know, but still I wonder
Why you let me in your heart

I love the rain
I love the way it washes something clean
And pushes rivers to the sea
To fall anew
That’s what I love about rain
That’s what I love about you
